The Hamburger State Opera is an institution. There are 1,680 seats, but it is extremely difficult to obtain the coveted tickets. Capacity is at almost 100 percent. Millions have now been spent on carefully cleaning up the façade and the foyers. Architectural conservation and modern formal vocabulary do not have to be opposites: pendulum luminaries by Baulmann, large and clear in their stylistic featuring, furnish the proof.
